Default 5am Workout

Does anyone accomplish this every morning? I am trying to do this every morning but I keep failing to wake up.. it is super hard. I want to work out regularly.. but I work 12 hr days which doesn't leave alot of time to work out and accomplish other personal things.

Any tips or suggestions? I need some role models.

i tried it. It lasted one or two days. After that I would wake up even before the alarm went off, turn it off and go back to bed. :S

I woke up for 6-6:30 for a good two weeks. Then a long weekend came and I slept in and I found it hard to do ever since.
Now that the weather is cooling down its especially hard. Every day I set my alarm for 6 and every day i snuggle in my blankets and snooze it for a good hr. By then the gym window is gone.

Will set my alarm for 6:20 tonight and wear my gym clothes as pj's lol.

I did it for 4 years while I was in Uni. Was hard at first but if you try to be consistent for about 2 weeks your body will get use to getting up at 5 am. Wish I could do it now but I have to be at work 5:30 am every morning!

I did it for a while a few years ago, I went to a spinning class that started at 6am, and after a few days you start making aquaintances and you are motivated to stick with it, you feel so good after and you know you are done your workout for the day, and I just did some weights, squats etc at home in the evenings..it ended when I went to India for 5 weeks and when I got back my schedule changed drastically..

set your alarm, have your clothes already laid out, have your water bottle,Ipod or whatever and car keys all ready to go so you aren't running around in the morning, and just go!

i wake up at 5:30am on fridays to play hockey before going to work, but i'm not going to lie to you - it SUCKS! i love hockey, but i love sleep more.

other ideas:
1. work out at lunch. a few of the guys i work with do this and it seems to work for them... it seems like a waste though to take showers and get dressed twice within four hours...
2. bike/run to work (if you have showers there), or do it on the way home...

someone told me that if you do something consistently for six weeks (?), it becomes a habit...

so last night i couldn't sleep properly til like 2-3am soooo ya, I set my alarm for 6:20 and then when it went off, pushed it to 7:30 and snoozed until 8.

since i got maybe 5 hrs of sleep tonight and no coffee (yet), i will hopefully go to bed for 11-12 and try again for tomorrow morning.

Does that mean you went to bed super early.. like at 9pm?

Working 12 hr days sucks.. think of it..

12 hrs work, 7 hrs sleep = 19hrs which leaves 5 hrs a day to do your own stuff. 1 hr goes in the morning for breakfast and getting ready. 1 to 1.5 hrs goes in the evening for making dinner and eating. This only leaves 2 hrs of personal time.

If I go to the gym.. add 1 hr prep/travel time and a 1 hr work out. Thats the remaining 2 hrs.

Thats 24hrs fully booked.. that doesn't leave me anytime to watch Prison Break

I heard in some societies people are even working more.. I can't take it anymore!

I wonder if it would be easier in some ways just to do it at home in the mornings. Less shenanigans.

It's not. i have elliptical machine at home and free weights and i still can't myself to do it. I do it for a month or two on regular basis and then lose interest.

I finally accomplished this.. this morning I woke up at 5 and worked out from 5:30-6:30.

I feel proud that I accomplished it.. I don't have to worry about working out for the rest of the day. But I am feeling a little sluggish. Is it because I did weights?

i don't think you had enough protein to follow the workout. That would make you tired. Try an energy bar.

It happens at first but as your routine becomes consistent you will feel less and less tired!

I do most of my workouts right after work but two mornings a week I come in early and swim/tread water for maybe 30 mins. Short workouts that burn alot of calories and tone muscle and I get to miss morning traffic. The whole morning traffic thing is key...I have to remind myself of how much I hate traffic when I want to hit snooze. And turn the lights on as soon as the alarm (which I keep across the room) goes on, harder to go back to sleep that way. Two weeks and you'll have no troubles! Good luck!

could not wake up today at all. I did this for like 2-3 weeks consistently and then went on a wekend getaway and havent not been able to consistently do this. But i very much want to before i go to bed. Then in teh morning, I kinda 'forget/lose' the sense of urgency/want as i prefer pressing the snooze button more :s
i work out in teh eve's but i find it takes up so much of my eve cuz i dont get home til 6, have dinner, clean, gym for 8 and then when im done its already 9pm and i usually have trouble sleeping if i work out to late.
plus i really need to start my days earlier. i have so much crap to do and can never get it done - all i need is an extra hour or 2 to add to my day = wake up at 6-6:30 instead of 8. but frig, its really hard.

Wowsers.. you wake up at 8? I start work at 7:30am.

I hear you about coming home at like 6:30-7pm and then trying to have dinner and travelling to the gym, having a 1hr workout, come home and shower and its already 11pm. It gives you no time to relax. Thats why I am trying for the mornings, so in the evenings I can just relax and watch tv and stuff like that. Otherwise time just flies too quickly without anytime for yourself.

I just wanted to add..

Having weights and a tread mill at home really saves you alot of time. I think I am going to buy a full workout center in the near future so I never have to go to the gym.

Once you start working 10-12 hr days.. time is so precious.

hehe well I usually roll into work at 9. I shoudl i guess try getting in at 8;30 but my shceudle is flexible. regardless of when i start - i put anywehre form 8-12 hr days depending on whats come up. so ya, starting my morning with a workout is sooo needed cuz during those 12 hr days - geting to the gym is tough. plus, accoridng to a numbe rof people, its more beneficial i terms of weight loss than an evening workout.
you're totally right abt no time to myself... my 'case of the mondays' isnt about how slow the new week will be but rather how fast another week will go by.
waking up is tough though and now that its getting colder, even harder. BUT everyday, i tell myself im waking up early the next day lol

This might sound really dumb but when I first started adding early morning workouts I used to bribe myself...like if I go each time I'm supposed to I'll get myself such and such. Childish but it worked!

I get up at 5 am every day - atleast 6 days a week to walk the dog for about 30-45 mins.

I did this EVERYDAY even in -20 weather in Feb

Getting a dog works

You have to take him out no matter what - even if you are very tired or are half-dead due to the flu

3 sets of each with very little rest betweenn sets and exercises.
Burpees 10 reps
Chin ups 6 reps
Chinnies 16 reps
Squats 15 reps
