the 25 cent ttc fee
more cop tickets
higher user fees with city services
and any other fees that can be hiked without needing an approved tax hike
Politics is deceit, after all.

#311-06-2009, 05:03 PMMaybe we can build some new facilities which will never be used after the games.
I'm glad I live in York Region. Close, but not too close.

#511-06-2009, 08:06 PMWho the heck cares about the Pan Am games. It is basically "athletes" who are rejects that won participation stickers in elementary school or those bronze patches.
Just an excuse to get some infrastructure and facilities updated and built. Long term I guess it's good for the city since they can get stuff the community needs built but why do we need the excuse of some meaningless event. Why can't it just be done because it needs to be done??
If you live in Toronto get ready for a new sales tax and increased fees on everything. If you commute to Toronto from the burbs, get ready to pay tolls on the Gardner (Miller has got nothing to lose at this point) and virtually any other road they can implement it on.
At least Union station will get a facelift and expansion.

#611-07-2009, 09:25 AMfunny thing in the misinformation on this board is Toronto is not the only city hosting it. Other cities are in it as well and Hamilton is spending more than Toronto. Also, while Pan Am is not as prestigious as the Winter Olympics it is bigger in size. For a region, whose tourism industry is badly hit over the last few years, it will certainly help. And if you take a look at the economic impact that the Winter olympics has had on BC, I am sure Pan Am will help the region economically as well. The 25c ttc hike was coming, games or no games. There will probably be even more ttc hikes in the future - games or no games.
