Restaurants with live entertainment, Recommendations Please!

    #1
I will be taking my parents out for their anniversary this weekend. I need a resturant with good food and great atmosphere.

Im looking for a place that is UNIQUE, EXCELLENT FOOD, LIVE ENTERTAINMENT. I dont care what kind of food it is, as long as its not the usual steakhouse menus.. i want something different.

We have been thinking about Sultans Tent www.thesultanstent.com but I have no idea what the cost of it is and some people are saying its overpriced. ( if you have been, give me ur review!)

Anyways if you have any reccomendations for restaurants in Toronto with the above criteria, let me know!!

BTW, i know this thread belongs in the 'Food Zone'. I shall move it once i get replies..

    thanks in advance!!

    sultan's tent

    i have been there
    i took my ex there
    $40/person
very very excellent in terms of decore, the food, the service, and the belly dancers. yes they have belly dancers.
the lighting is excellent and really sets the mood for a romantic dinner.

the food may be simple but very tasty. it's a 4 course meal: salad/soup, appetizers, main meal, dessert.

the herbal tea is excellent....cleared up my sinuses good. lol

now comes the bill........expensive........for my ex and myself came to about $106.

i'd recommend this place if it was just your parents goin to rekindle their love.....it's definitely not a family venue.

if it was you and your hubby then OH HELLS YA GO HERE!

i've also been to Spezzo as many of you remember from 2 weeks ago.

Excellent food, Excellent service, decore is finely appointed and the price is just right. it's a good family eatery if your siblings are over 16 years old.

again the decore is little upscale from the likes of a kelsey's, casey's, outback, etc. soooo that is why i'm saying its good to go there if your sibling is older.
    $20/person

is there another place you're thinking of.

Been to Sultan's Tent a couple of times, the belly dancing and decor are unique. I personally was not a fan of the food. For a couple with drinks your looking at about $120.

If it's entertainment value your looking for I suggest Benihana. The 'entertainment' is actually your chef. It is a Japanese resturant but far from just Sushi. If you haven't been you basically sit on a table of 8 or 10 surrounding a chef with all his cooking utensils. He does all these tricks while cooking your food. It's a pretty cool and fun concept. The cost is about the same as Sultan's but honestly it's a lot more fun. Plus in my opinion the food is a lot better as well.

Here is the info if your interested. It's actually inside the Royal York Hotel.
      100 Front St. West

thanks to all of those who posted useful information.

Logik- I have been to Benihana during Winterlicious.. i liked the whole experience. What is the price range?

Metesh- Why would you say Sultans tent isnt a family atomosphere? is it cuz of the belly dancers or soemthin? The other place i was gooing to go to was The red violin which is a brazilian grill with live music. I have been there before but its 50/person.. i think thats a bit too steep in terms of price.

The main thing is atmosphere and food.. We eat out all the time anyways.. so an ordinary place is out of the question. Just looking for a special place with good food.

Chiquita depends on if you drink or not but yeah it's at least $50-$60 a a person.

If your going to a place with entertainment it is going to cost you at least that much as opposed to lets say a regular resturant.

          Good luck though.

i said it wasn't a good family restaurant only cuz i found the table size to be a little small. and yes depending on if you're family isn't cool about the belling dancing then would be problem. again the food is good...but kinda bland.

              thats it i think

Really?? I was there on Saturday night

I wonder if you're the Indian girl we saw there!

I love the place too...and except for the soup (which looks like swamp water) everything else on the menu is oretty good. I had the crab cakes this time (for apps), Alex had jumbo prawns. Both were good!

For mains, I had the salmon and he had the steak. Again, very good!

And the Creme Brulee for dessert is to die for!

It's a bit on the pricey side though. By the time you add wine, water and stuff.. our bill was well over $200.

But, so worth it - if you're looking for a special place!

Im noticing that alot of these places are fix menus. You guys know any places with live music.. but a la carte menus.. I think that fix menus are so restricted.

Actually the menu at Sultan's tent is very extensive. Just don't be fooled by the $40 pp tab...as all the good items on the menu have supplements to them..

So, to get the crab cakes, there was an additional charge of $4.95 and to get the jumbo prawn it was $8.95 or smth...For the steak it was an extra $10 etc.

By the time you add it all up - the price per person is easily $70+ (and that's no including wine or other beverages). But, at least, you have over 10-12 items to choose from in each course.
